CHALLENGE #179 AT LET'S SCRAP

There's a new challenge just started at Let's Scrap, and it's a photo inspiration  theme this week.

Here is the photo to inspire you:

The challenge is to take 3 elements from the photograph and interpret them onto your LAYOUT

This is what I created :

The sketch I followed is 5-5-13 from Let's Scrap

The inspiration I used : As it is a cloister, I used an architectural drawing (of an old monastery) as my background; the dark green foliage; the mysterious darkness underneath the arches translated into the darkness under the shrubs in the photographs; the roughness of the stones I translated into the distressed edges; and the weathering on the stones I translated into the distressing on the roses in the top right hand corner.

The inspiration photograph had a very romantic, fairy tale feel to it.  I thought of love, romance, pretty princesses and castles (cue Taylor Swift singing "Romeo and Juliet"), and a sweeter love story than that of my son Nicholas and and his beautiful princess, Storm, has yet to be written.

To create my 8 x 8 layout, I used the following :

green CS base
print of an old monastery for the background
darkk green cardstock
printed pink cardstock
pink cardstock mats
lace
sewn on sequins and beads
distressed roses

Here are some close-ups:

distressed roses, lace and sewn on sequins and beads
I hand embroidered a basket using raffia and added some sewn on sequins and beads
the end of the lace tie, with hand sewn sequins and beads
In the close up pics you can see the distressed edges more clearly, and this wonderful effect is created by using a tool not traditionally meant for papercrafts .... but works like MAGIC ......

Yes - a seam ripper!!!! That's my secret tool ... now you know too! Cheap, quick and easy AND super effective!!
