A DAY FOR DAISIES NEW RELEASES AND CHALLENGE

It's Friday again - my favorite day of the week, cos it's time for new releases from A Day for Daisies. This week there's a challenge for you too ...

These are the new releases - are they not just the most precious images you've seen?

And this is the card I made to show you today :

I coloured my image with copics and shaded with coloured pencils and OMS, then used a spellbinders diecut for the image and for a matching DP which is actually the cover of a paper pad I bought recently. The BP is the one which is in the pad. As embellishments I added some swirls by sewing on sequins and beads and a self-adhesive sentiment "Perfect Friends" - it's not so clear on the photograph. A spray of flowers completes the card.

And the challenge, I'm sure you can guess the theme ... "Babies" ... and with images like that, it shouldn't be too difficult, should it?

A ROYAL WEDDING!

I made a card using a freebie image from Guylou's Inimitability, for a challenge on Crafters Digital Art Center that I would also like to enter into the challenge at Just Some Lines.

I coloured the gorgeous image using my coloured pencils and OMS, and added a spray of flowers (as the bouquet). The colour scheme of the card was based on Kate's engagement ring (pictured below) and I tried to recreate the ring as the embellishment in the top right hand corner.

In addition to the challenge there is a blog hop on at Just Some Lines with some fabulous prizes to be won! I've just been there and loved every minute of it!

MARVELLOUS MONDAY AT SHELLY'S IMAGES!

Does anybody remember that fabulous old movie from about 45 years back, called "Ring of Bright Water"? I remember watching it at movie night, on a Friday night at my old primary school, Penzance Primary,in Glenwood, Durban. An movie projector was hired for the occasion, and the movie, which came on two or three reels, stored in those circular metal tins, were housed in a leather type suitcase with the leather belts an buckles. What a thrill it was to be able to go to school, NOT WEARING A SCHOOL UNIFORM, and also AT NIGHT!. Those were the innocent pre-boyfriend days, and the best thing about the evening was to prowl along the dark corridors, scaring each other!

Oh dear here I am, waffling on about the movies, when I actually wanted to show you my new card, featuring an otter image from Shelly's images, where I am on the Design Team. And that otter image is what reminded me of that old movie!

So now we have gone full circle, let me tell you how I put my card together : I coloured the otter image using coloured pencil and OMS. I used a picture of the cover of the book, "A Ring of Bright Water" and make a book embellishment out of it, The image was matted onto a page torn out of an old dictionary too young to be valuable and too old to be useful for its intended purpose. The page I tore out contains the word "otter' and over that I stuck a dome sticker to highlight the word.
decorative corners were added to a diecut onto which the image and dictionary page were matted.

And that, as Jack said, is that!

Now the otter image could never be called cute, nor, in my opinion is an otter pretty or beautiful, but this particular image brought back a ton of memories for me, of my old school, and how special movie nights were (TV came to South Africa only about 7 years later).

Thanks Shelly! I walked down memory lane whilst making my card - memories of the movie nights led to many more memories, related to each other only by the fact that they were from my youth, and my happy schooldays spent at Penzance Primary School. So that image now holds a special place in my heart because of those wonderful memories!

Here is this week's Sketch and my card for your inspiration:

I used one of Shawne's cutest images, and coloured her with Copics, coloured pencils and OMS, and some gel pens. The sentiment "SMILE" is part of Shawne's set and the smiley is a button from my stash. Also from my stash is the yellow matting, and the balloon scrapbooking paper that came as part of a birthday kit - a perfect match! The embellishments are foil sprinkle stars that should be used as table decor but I found out some time ago that you can actaully pierce them with a needle and use them as sequins, so those were sewn onto the card using beads as spacers to left them off the card and beads to secure them onto the card. Neat - huh?

PATTIE'S CREATIONS DESIGN CHALLENGE #20 - "MOTHER'S DAY"

The theme for this week's challenge is 'Mother's Day'. Mother's Day is May 10th and we wanted to get an early jump on creations for a Mom. You must use a digital or stamped image. The DT has created some wonderful inspirations for this week's challenge, and this is the African-themed card that I made, using Mother and Child 2 from Patties Store:

I printed the image onto brown kraft and coloured with regular and watercolour pencils and oms, then cut out using a Nellie's Choice Die. Offcuts of raffia were tie around the diecut to symbolise a basket in the process of being woven. The beads that I sewed onto the cards are the kind that the local African people use to make jewelery and their famous beaded love letters, where every colour has a different meaning.

Are you ready to add your card to this challenge?

A winner will be chosen by Random.org. The winner will receive 3 images of their choice from Pattie's Etsy Store and an 'I Won' badge from the sidebar.

'Allie's Top 3 Award' will be given to 3 entries that have caught our eye. The winners will be chosen by the DT Coordinator, and can proudly display our badge on their sidebar. These winners will also be put into a monthly random draw for a chance to win 2 images of their choice from Pattie's Etsy Store. The drawing will always fall on the last day of the month. Please make sure you grab your badge and place it on your sidebar (HINT, we'll be looking for it)!
We also have a new spot for posting the challenge Winners! It's at the top of the sidebar called 'WINNERS CORNER' and also in the menu bar across the top.

SHANNON'S SENTIMENTS EARTH DAY BLOG HOP

Welcome to Shannon 's Sentiments Earth Day Hop!

If you have arrived here by way of Michelle's Blog, you are on the right track!
If you have not, please return to Shannon's blog by clicking here, to start your awesome hop!

Let's start this post off with a delightful poem :

"The Earth Day Poem" by Emeline for Earth Day 2008

Our forests are dying,
Our lakes are drying,
Mother Earth is crying,
and we must start trying!

Trying to save our Earth
giving back what it's worth,
toward a new day of REBIRTH!!!

Join the millions of people worldwide,
to begin to live with pride,
while waste begins to subside,
and conservation is taken in stride.

Use paper, not plastic bags,
Recycle clothing to use as rags,
Re-do, repair, re-dream,
Don''t buy new, buy green!

Walk or share a ride,
Conserve water town wide,
read a book, or play a game,
Live in peace without shame.

We must begin today,
there is no time to delay,
Mother Earth is needing you to pray,
On This 2008, Earth Day!

there certainly are some lessons there for all of us ...

Here is a card I made of scraps, my 'green' card, using a sentiment from Shannon's store, that I printed onto an offcut of scrapbooking paper, together with a free image off the internet. I coloured using coloured pencils and OMS, and matted that onto a piece of craft that I cut from a cereal box and used the unprinted inside.

Thanks for looking, and also for joining us on Shannon's Sentiment hop.

Giveaway......leave a comment on each of the hop blogs and a random winner will receive one image or set from the store of their choice.

Please leave a comment before you hop on to the next crafter, who is

CINDY

Happy Earth Day .. look after our precious Earth, it's the only one we've got to pass on to our children!

ta-daa .. ANNOUNCEMENT - I am on the Shelly's Images Design Team!

........ and really over the moon about it!

My first "official" post is for the Marvellous Monday ... and I have used Shelly's uber-cute duckling image:

You all know me, I try to figure out what the logical thing to do with the image would be, and then I don't do it!! LOL It being Easter, so what do I do with a http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifduckling image .... you're right - I don't make an Easter card!

So mine is a baby card, with the image coloured in pencils and OMS, and matted onto an offcut of scrapbooking paper. A pretty ribbon and some rhinestones complete the card.

Here is my card for this week:

And what did I do to create this card?

I used the gorgeous image from Sugar Creek Hollow and coloured using various coloured pencils and OMS. To evoke a feeling of looking at an insect display in a Natural Science Museum, I cut three pieces of clear something or other that was part of the packing of a cleaning kit I purchased a week or two ago, and using beads as spacer, attached the 'windows' over the image. The bee's wings were coloured in various pastel shades and then crystal glitter glue was added over the top.

And that, pretty much, is all it took.

I am particularly pleased with the result, and am planning to frame this for display in my studio.

A NEW BELLYDANCE BRA!

I have just completed this bellydance bra for my BBF, Gwen, who is the owner of the Belly Button Dance Studio, on the Bluff, Durban, South Africa.

I used a foam cup bra as the base of the bra, covered in in orange trilobal (stretch fabric) and hand sewed on every bead, sequin and coin. It takes a few hours to make, or should I say well over 100 hours, and I am particularly pleased with the way this one looks.

Here is this week's Sketch and my card for your inspiration

I used the Cherry Blossom image together with the two matching background papers from Studio 313 - - isn't it a beautiful combination? I took the colours of the blossoms on the background paper and attempted to reproduce them on my image. http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif The green and pink cardstock are what I had in my stash and I was so pleased that they matched perfectly. The bling swirls are made using templates from my friend, Mel's, online shop, and they made the placement of the strings of self-adhesive cellphone bling really easy to attach (No, each rhinestone is not individual placed!) The two teardrop embellishments, however, ARE all individually placed - I used teardrop shaped rhinestones to create these two flowers.

The sketch this week is really easy to create with - and I am sure that you all will have loads of fun creating an entry to win one of those fabulous prizes this week.

Hapy a happy, creative week!

WORLD PEACE IN MY LIFETIME ?

WORLD PEACE IN OUR LIFETIME?

Nature ~ Humanity ~ Environment
UNITING ALL CAUSES, ALL PEOPLE, ALL CULTURES, NATIONS, ALL BELIEFS & NON~BELIEFS

"We're all unique and see the world differently,
and yet we are one voice standing together for peace"

This banner has been created so one billion people can actually be counted standing together for peace - to see if we can make a real difference in the real world. Why one billion? This figure is more than ten percent of the whole population - which quantum scientists say will create a shift in consciousness.
It is said that if we did this, something will change, or at least life will never be the same. Wiser people than me have said that, if we all stand together beyond the justifications, doubts, desires and all reasons that separate us, then we can cause a shift in mass consciousness....this seems unreasonable - lets test the theory, stop talking about it and find out the reality!

Many people here and in the world are all working to bring peace to the planet. We are now colliding in our intentions. We should realise that it has to be beyond one person's vision or project. It will require every ONE of us to speak together. No matter who we are, change begins with us - YOU - the person reading this.

PEACE will bring not only an END to WAR, but to POVERTY and HUNGER too. Peace in our hearts will find us naturally taking care of our ENVIRONMENT, NATURE, all our planet's creatures along with the inhabitants we share this gorgeous earth with. Who am I? - no-one, just an ordinary person like you. It has to be this way, a nobody - AND All of us, from All nations, All beliefs and non-beliefs with all those with the power to implement change. However, it will be the 6 billion souls who will have the most power of all - when and if we can stand together in one wish.......for peace.

Peace

NETTIE G'S DIGITAL GEMS : Favourites Challenge

I am now Design Team member for Nettie G's Digital Gems, and am so happy!

This is my first project - a challenge !

Use your favorite DIGI and color.

Can't be any easier can it.

Now remember...
you can use any image you want.
All entries get one entry in the prize drawing.

Use a Nettie G image and get two entries in the prize drawing.

There is no featured image this challenge - we had to choose our favourite image and colour, and how could I not use the image Nettie designed and named after me "Jenlee's Quilted Heart"

It's a dream to colour, and in my opinion looks best in monochromatics. I chose to keep the embellishment simple - a satin bow and some flowers and flat back pearls, and matted on a purse backing.

How easy will it be for you to enter the challenge! I'd love to see what you http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifcreate, and leave you some love on your blog too.

FRIDAY - A DAY FOR DAISIES NEW RELEASE DAY!

I love Fridays, as I said in a previous post - the start of the weekend, and also the day I get to give you a look at the new releases at A DAY FOR DAISIES :

I decided to make one of my "story cards" this week as I felt the image I used really begged for a wedding theme ...

Where do I begin to tell you what I did to create this card ..

I coloured the fabulous image using Copics. The lace border was created using a border die, and ribbon and silver cord were threaded through the holes. The bridal bouquet of roses and lilies was made using flowers from my stash. The little crystal and pearl embellishment I made from scratch, and the top border was a ready-made stick on, onto which I sewed the sequins and beads.

I love making this type of card, even though it is time-consuming, and the finished product is like a glimpse into another world.
